Zachys Auction sale Asia 27th May, 2016: including Lafite 2000 and DRC

Zachys May 27Following Zachys auction's Part III of Immaculate Bordeaux from the Chairman’s Collection, Zachys is featuring Part IV of the Chairman’s Collection and exceptional fine wines from prominent collectors. This sale will be hosted at the Mandarin Oriental on Friday 27th of May evening and the next day, Saturday 28th at LUPA by Mario Batali, in the heart of Central, Hong Kong. This auction features over 1,400 lots from private collections with estimates totaling HK$57.9m – 85.5m/ US$7.4m – 10.9m.

Previous offerings from The Chairman’s Collection have been impressively deep collections of Bordeaux – vintage upon vintage in OWC of Lafite Rothschild, Mouton Rothschild, Pétrus, Ausone and more. The fourth tranche from his cellar, is no different in terms of quality.

The Exceptional Cellar: Fine Wines from a Prominent Collector
Just about every lot can be considered a highlight from this collection. The consignment offers bidders the wonderful opportunity to acquire legends from the 2000 and 2005 vintages. Particularly noteworthy are Lafite 2000, Cheval Blanc, Margaux and Pétrus 2000 as well as Latour, Cheval Blanc, Margaux and Mouton 2005. From Burgundy, there’s a rarely seen case of 1976 Maison Leroy Clos Vougeot in its original wood case, and also a 2005 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti assortment case.

A Singular Cellar of Great Importance
The quality and quantity of this collection illustrates the consignor’s great passion for collecting the crème de la crème. All five First Growths are represented, each showcasing some of the very best vintages: 1982, 1986, 1990, 1996, 2000 and 2005. This consignor has chosen to offer case after case of top vintages of Cheval Blanc, Le Pin and Pétrus, mostly all in their original wood cases. It also includes 7 bottles of Dom Pérignon Oenothèque 1962, two lots of 1990 magnums and multiple cases of Rosé 1982, 1992, and 1996. The collection wouldn’t be complete without a spotlight on Burgundy, showcasing only the very best from the Côte D’Or.

The Supreme Cellar: An Oversized Collection from an Avid Oenophile
Highlights include spectacular stretches of some of the finest Burgundian wines in existence today. Producers like Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Leroy, d’Auvenay, Armand Rousseau and Domaine Leflaive are featured here in abundance. Excellent provenance is a hallmark of this collection, and this consignor was highly selective when amassing this spectacular array of Burgundian gems.

The second offering from the Supreme Cellar on Saturday brings a robust array of wines from around the world - Bordeaux, followed by a champagne assortment - Bollinger, Dom Perignon, and Krug; Ornellaia, 'Unico' from Vega Sicilia and the legendary cult California classic, Screaming Eagle.

Spirits from the Top Shelf

Single malts from Scotland abound, with lots of particular interest being the collectible Macallan “M” and drams from the closed distilleries Port Ellen, Brora and Karuizawa. On offer is the Karuizawa The Dragon 52 Year Old Cask #5627 Single Cask 1960: an extremely rare treasure sealed in a Japanese Puzzle Box and only 41 of these exist in the world. They packaged this treasure with a unique netsuke (a small carved charm from the 16th and 17th century feudal Japan) rather than simply a number to heighten the rarity and solitary nature of the release. Moreover, the bottle on offer carries a “Dragon”, the award-winning calligrapher Soji Nishimoto gives life to the bottles with putting up his piece of art, “The kanji” to washi paper label.
