Deep ruby red colour. Heavy, heady nose. Intoxicating aromas including vanilla, black cherry and black currant. Lots of tannins but these aren't green at all. Potentially a great wine. Oddly, some tonal change in the colour. Pignolo is the grape variety to watch in this part of Italy. Wine makers are starting to produce wines which will rival the greatest examples from around the world. It has the depth, complexity, maturity and longevity to match any worldwide standard.
