Light gold colour. Gentle nose of honey and citrus. Toasty and dry on the palate with honey and butter almonds. Good length. One of the ‘finest’ Champagnes around. Beautiful delineation.

Lanson's decision not to use MLF is really a question of preserving a tradition rather than anything innovative. 40-45 years ago in Champagne, most Champagne houses did not use MLF then most houses changed their approach. The Lanson family wished to keep the freshness which comes from not using MLF and particularly the fruit aromas - apple, pear and grape - which is the signature of the house and comes from the support of the malic acid. A second aspect is that Lanson uses a large proportion of Pinot Noir in its blend (50%). This brings a lot of volume Note 1a French term given to a wine which gives the impression of a wine which fills the mouth to the palate and by preserving the malic acid it balances this character by adding a freshness in the finish which might otherwise be lacking.
