Standing in a small dark chamber off the main cellar, this is a far cry from the pomp and circumstance of Bordeaux. But for all that tasting at DRC is a very humbling experience.
Romanee-Conti is a holistic experience - a wine which can’t be judged by the identification of any specific ingredients - it is far greater than the sum of its parts. When one tastes the wine there is no separation of any tastes, flavours, bouquet, aromas... only a growing perception of the wine’s inherent qualities - balance, elegance, persistence, depth, intensity, endurance, complexity, with the defining phrase of its owner ‘un finesse de maturité’ ringing in one’s ears: so... this is what it means.
The wine communicates the history and culture of the domain with a window onto the future. Memorable.
