The wine auctions FWAI50 is calculated from auction data supplied by Zachys, Acker Merrall & Condit, Sotheby's, Christie's and Hart Davis Hart. It is based on unmixed, non-vertical, 75cl lots sold at auction. The Index is a weighted average of prices based on the quantities sold at auction in a particular month. Over any given period the FWAI50 is based on more than 30,000 separate auction lots representing more than 270k bottles of wine and in excess of $300million in sales. For a list of the wines used to compile the Fine Wine Auction Index 50 see the note. The Index is a composite if indices calculated in US$ from around the world and therefore includes fx fluctuations particularly with reference to sales quoted in GB£.
