This is one of the friendliest wine bars in London. Simon Pearson enjoyed working at the wine bar so much, he bought it back in the 1980s. Its longevity, a symbol of its success, comes from delivering well-priced and attractive food with lovely wines from around the world which are competitively priced. They offer some well selected wines from Bordeaux with some age under their belt: Château Pontet-Canet, Pauillac 2000 £72.00, Château Calon-Ségur, St. Estèphe 2000 £78.00, Château Léoville Barton, St Julien 1996 £79.00. Champagne Gosset Brabant Grand Cru Reserve, NV is good value at £45.00. Many other good wines are available at more modest prices. The wines are well selected as a cursory glance at producers' names reveals: Pieropan (Soave), Allegrini (Valpolicella), Torres Estate (Chile), Christophe Pichon (Rhône), Jansz (Tasmania). Good food and salad bar. They organise wine tasting evenings from time to time. It's always busy.
