The 2006 vintage in Sauternes

In Sauternes, alternating wet periods and fairly long hot, dry periods were perfectly conducive to the development of noble rot (Botrytis cinerea), which worked its wonders with impressive efficiency to concentrate sugar while maintaining acidity and fruit. The yields were lower than in 2005. It is considered an excellent vintage by any standard. See our tasting notes of some of the top estates.
